(1475-1564) An Italian painter, sculptor and architect, Michelangelo was a great artistic genius of the Renaissance, active in both Florence and in Rome. He is especially remembered for his sculpture David and for his paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, which include the famous scene of God giving the spark of life to Adam.
